A full day on the range. Shotgun trap and skeet, .22 rifle, muzzle loading, archery, and pistol — sign up for the shooting you want to do, cheer on the other Trailmen, and go home with a score card. No class or badge required to attend.

Navigators, Adventurers & Guidons only
This is a teen-and-up shooting event. Trailmen must be registered Navigators, Adventurers, or Guidons to participate — there is no Woodlands Trail program at this event, and no siblings. Adults attend to help run the event; every adult is expected to take on a small role.
The ranges
Read these before you register so you know what you are signing up for. Each range is booked as its own time slot, and there are a limited number of spots on each.
Shotgun — Trap
$2525 rounds · Navigators, Adventurers & Guidons
A single trap machine throwing straight away — one bird at a time. Choose 12 gauge or 20 gauge when you sign up. Scored on the total of 25 rounds.
Shotgun — Skeet
$2525 rounds · Navigators, Adventurers & Guidons
A skeet range with 6–8 stations. You move around the range shooting one to two birds at a time in report style, loading two rounds at a stand — be ready for the second bird immediately after the first. Bring your own ammo bag or use one of ours to carry the gun and ammo between stations. Choose 12 or 20 gauge; spots for each are limited. Scored on the total of 25 rounds.
Rifle
$25100 rounds · Navigators, Adventurers & Guidons
Up to 10 shooters on the line at a time, with semi-automatic, bolt, and lever action .22s. Rotate through prone, kneeling, sitting, bench, and standing positions. Fun paper targets, metal targets, and competition targets — up to 10 rounds at the competition target count for scoring.
Muzzle loading

Load your own black powder and ball. Long sleeves are required for this range — black powder and percussion guns throw debris near the lock that stings bare arms. Scored on your highest target score.
Pistol
$2575 rounds .22LR · Adventurers & Guidons only
Shoot 75 rounds of .22LR pistol. After completing those rounds and demonstrating proper handling, you may shoot 25 rounds of 9mm.
Archery
$15Compound bows · Navigators, Adventurers & Guidons
Compound bows, with a separate safety briefing specific to archery. Scored on your last round of shooting.
Planning your day
- ›Arrive 30–60 minutes before your first shooting time to check in, complete the safety briefing, and walk to the range.
- ›The event range safety briefing is mandatory — no one shoots at any range without it.
- ›Allow time between slots if you sign up for more than one range: it is an estimated 10–15 minute walk between ranges.
- ›The event runs most of the day, roughly 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Come out for your slots, then stay and watch the other Trailmen shoot.
Where: This is a private property in Huntsville. The exact address is given to those who complete registration. To estimate your drive, it is near I-45 and Pinedale Rd in Huntsville, TX.

Last year's pricing, shown so troops can budget. Confirm final costs when registration opens.
Event fee
$20
Required for every participant. Includes a moisture-wicking event shirt — registering by the deadline is what guarantees the shirt.

Trap, skeet, rifle, muzzle loading, and pistol — priced per range.
Archery
$15
Priced separately from the firearm ranges.
How to register
- 1Complete registration and payment on Cheddar Up, including the liability waiver, choosing your ranges and time slots.
- 2Sign up for at least one volunteer shift during registration, before you check out.
- 3Have your Troopmaster create the event in Trail Life Connect with the appropriate activities and complete the required paperwork there.
- 4Your TML signs off on the event for your troop in TLC.
- 5Bring a hard copy of your Trail Life medical form — on you, or with your troop leadership on site.

Registration is not open yet. It runs through Cheddar Up, where you pick your ranges and time slots, sign the liability waiver, and choose a volunteer shift. Watch this page and region communications for the opening date.
What to bring
Wear
- ›Long pants — required on the ranges

- ›Layers: mid-November mornings in Huntsville can be cold and the afternoon warm

Food
Meals are not provided — you are welcome to bring your own food and snacks. A troop concession stand has run at this event in past years with sandwiches, chips, drinks, and snacks; details for this year will be confirmed closer to the event.
Adults: we need your help
The range instructors and range safety officers have put a great deal of time, effort, and money into earning their certifications so this event can happen, and they work their ranges all day — be sure to thank them. Everything around the ranges still needs hands. Every adult is expected to take at least one shift, signed up during registration.
Prizes

- ★To compete for the overall prize you must shoot at least three of the ranges
- ★Keep your score card — photograph it and share it in the event group as instructed
Frequently asked questions
Who can come?
Registered Navigators, Adventurers, and Guidons, plus adults who are helping run the event. The pistol range is limited to Adventurers and Guidons. No Woodlands Trail Trailmen and no siblings.
Do I need a shooting badge or class first?
No. You do not need to have completed a class or earned a badge to attend. You do need to complete the event range safety briefing on arrival, and archery has its own additional briefing.
Is registration open?
Not yet. This page is early information so troops can put the date on the calendar and start planning. The Cheddar Up registration link, final fees, and the deadline will be posted here when they are set.
Can I shoot more than one range?
Yes — many Trailmen do. Sign up for each range you want as its own time slot, and leave a gap between them: it is a 10–15 minute walk between ranges, and arriving late to a slot may cost you the spot.
What firearms and ammunition do I bring?
None. Do not bring personal firearms or ammunition. Everything required for shooting is provided at each range.

What do adults do all day?
Help run the event. Certified range instructors and safety officers staff the ranges; everyone else covers check-in, movement between ranges, the concession area, and general support. Sign up for a shift during registration.
